This Masterthesis research project investigates the potential of rammed earth within the realm of exhibition design. Rammed earth, also called pisé-technique is an construction method that consists of compressing layers of mixture of clay, sand, and gravel for erecting walls.
In the chapters it will often be addressed as a new old variety. This definition stems from the idea that rammed earth, as an age-old construction technique, embodies valuable historical knowledge and tradition.
By reintroducing it through inventive reinterpretation and in combination with contemporary technologies, it presents an opportunity to significantly contribute to a carbon-neutral future.

The Master‘s thesis is a collaborative effort by Lara Nellißen and Fiorella Rossi, and comprises an initial theoretical groundwork about rammed earth as construction technique. It outlines a conceptual framework that focuses on how material can be effectively communicated and the societal significance of spreading awareness about it.
